Best Netplay Settings for Every Device

The five settings worth changing: stream quality, download quality, subtitles, Wi-Fi only downloads and cache habits.

The app works fine out of the box, but five settings make it noticeably better. These are the ones we change on every test device running the Netplay APK.

1. Default stream quality

Set it to Auto on phones and 1080p on a stable home connection. Auto handles mobile networks gracefully; a fixed 1080p at home avoids the player second-guessing your Wi-Fi.

2. Download quality

Pick your download quality separately from streaming. Medium is the sweet spot for phones: sharp enough, small enough to queue several titles. Our offline downloads guide walks through the whole workflow.

3. Subtitle defaults

Turn on your preferred language and set a comfortable size once. The app remembers it for every title, which beats toggling it per stream. Sync tips are in our subtitles guide.

4. Wi-Fi only downloads

Flip this on and the download manager waits for Wi-Fi by itself. It is the single best setting for anyone on a capped mobile plan, and it pairs well with the data usage tips.

5. Clear cache schedule

There is no auto-clear, so clear it manually once a month from Settings, Apps and Storage. It keeps thumbnails fresh and the player happy.

TV box tweaks

On Fire TV Stick and Android TV boxes, drop default quality to 720p for live channels. The small dongles thank you, and on a couch ten feet away you will not miss the pixels.
